Dyeing—a world of color that once captured my heart with its singular brilliance.
"SWARM" is a series born from my ongoing endeavor to bridge the beauty of this textile art with the realm of painting. Even now, the sight of dye blending, soaking, and bleeding through the fabric sets my heart racing. It is a dialogue with the uncontrollable, a question of how to embrace and elevate accidental effects. The final vision shifts second by second, dictated by temperature, humidity, the concentration of the dye, and the very grain of the fibers.
Water flows from above to below, moving from where it is to where it is not. In this sense, the act of dyeing is a silent battle against gravity and the global environment itself. It requires a measure of luck—the fortune to turn sheer coincidence into an ally—and that is precisely where its profound fascination lies.
Within this series, I also employ traditional Kinsai techniques using genuine gold leaf, exploring the compelling contrast between the soft texture of fabric and the cold, striking presence of metal.
